HGV Heroes, thanking an essential industry

The road transport industry is one of the most important industries in the UK. It is essential for businesses and delivers everything that we rely on in our day-to-day lives, with 95% of all goods in the UK at some point travelling by road.

The sector is also the 5th largest in the UK, employing over 2.5 million people; from drivers, engineers, project managers, logistics co-ordinators to web developers, data scientists, coders, designers and more. There are thousands of different opportunities, careers and jobs within the sector.

Meet our HGV Heroes…

We want to highlight some of the fantastic work that our road hauliers have been doing recently, across multiple disciplines, skills and qualifications, in order to keep our country going during these challenging times.

Meet some of the HGV heroes who have been making a difference recently.

Ethan Macrae

Kent

Ethan is a truck technician at Sparshatt truck and van in Sittingbourne Kent, throughout this entire crisis he has been on call to the essential trucks and vans still working to support the UK. His girlfriend had recently left hospital following an operation so their time was limited to social media and video calling and all grandparents are over 80 and classed as vulnerable.

Do you know someone who’s stayed on the road to keep the nation going?

Nigel Smilie

Milton Keynes

Nigel Smilie has consistently gone above and beyond to keep our drivers and vehicles on the road, whilst making sure we are operating compliantly.

He has also assisted the Director when sorning vehicles and keeping up-to-date with the MOT testing, servicing etc.

Nigel is an asset to W H Barley and I feel he is an HGV hero.
